2016 was a tumultuous time in every single respect, be it politics, society, culture or the environment. Music was no different as the world lost one legend after another. Meanwhile dance music in India continued its abhorrent trend of booking international names to headline major events even as our local artists continued to be sidelined. While techno has become the sound du jour, there has been a diminishing trend when it comes to organic house music. We waited with baited breath for the tides to turn and now as the year draws to a close, Wind Horse Records is bringing some much needed respite with the announcement of its new party ‘Neon Grooves’.
Situated at the gorgeous seaside venue of Antares Restaurant & Beach Club (Goa), the event is stripping away all the embellishment surrounding the genre and recreating the real essence of house music on Indian shores. Neon Grooves is a celebration of colourful sonic landscapes and uplifting grooves. Spread over five days between the 26th-30th of December, the lineup features an array of exemplary locally based DJs and producers like Farhan Rehman, Hamza, Manu Idhra, Mashter, Mehul Pant, Oma, Priyesh Patil, SOULSPACE, Stalvart John, Tanvi, Tasnneem, Thee J Johanz and Troja. These are the few surviving house music soldiers who still wear the badge with pride and are expected to breach Vagator beach for some serious dance floor mayhem. There will be lots of Disco, Nu Disco, Latin, Afrobeat and Ethnic among a generous supply of Jackin House. No 30 minutes of play nonsense here. The sets are strictly long and the party won’t stop.
A great alternative to overcrowded and gimmicky music festivals, Neon Grooves should be the perfect place to indulge in some year-end hedonism. If you’re a real house head, you don’t want to miss this one.
